Simon was baptised Simon Magice, married as Simeon Peppin, was naturalized as a US citizen as Seymour Pepin, and was listed in the 1900 Federal Census, 1895 Washington State tax records, and Seattle City Directories from 1896 through 1905 as Seymour Peppan.According to the 1900 Federal Census for Seattle WA, he could read, write, and speak English
Family stories say he homesteaded Cattle Point on San Juan Island, and around 1896 was tendered an offer by Hudson Bay Company to trade his homestead for a house and lot in Ballard.
I believe the homestead was at 5730 Cattle Point Rd., San Juan Island, Washington. I went up to San Juan Island in the summer of 1996. After checking with a number of people--including the local historical society--found that there was no local record of Seymour ever having been on the island except for a tax record kept at the Western Washington University in Bellingham (Jim Moore/Wa. State Regional Archive/Commissary Building/Western Washington University/Bellingham, Wa 98225). The tax record can be found in: Asses. Roll Personal Property, 1895 San Juan, account # 70-8-658; location code, 6-8-9 (some other numbers are--though I didn't write down specifically what they were for--123 degrees/148 degrees 28 minutes/2 west/34 north; I believe these numbers are the plat numbers for the Cattle Point property).
January 1998: Lee Campbell is looking into why there is no record of Seymour/Simeon on San Juan Island, beyond the 1895 tax record.
July 1999: No word from Lee; Lee's email address comes back as user unknown.

Simon married 2 Emma Sarah HOUSTON [image] 1, daughter of ?-- Alfred John HOUSTON and Sophie GEORDAN, on 1 Apr 1878 in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. Emma was born in May 1864 in Moodyville, B.C. Canada. She died 3 on 29 Apr 1930 in Seattle, Wa and was buried 4 in Evergreen-Washelli, Seattle, King, WA. Emma resided 5 circa 1864 - circa 1879 in Moodyville on Burrard Inlet aka New Westminster, BC, Canada. She was baptized circa 1864 in New Westminster, BC, CA. She obtained a marriage license 6 on 1 Apr 1878 in New Westminster, BC, CA. She resided circa 1879 - circa 1896 in Cattle Point, San Juan Island, WA, USA. She immigrated circa 1879 to From BC to Washington state. She resided 1896 - 1930 in 312 (N)W 54th Street, Ballard, WA. She obtained a marriage license circa 1908 in Seattle, King, WA, USA.
Moodyville was in trhe vicinity of New Westminster, British Columbia:
New Westminster, city in southwestern British Columbia, Canada, on the Fraser River, near Vancouver. The city maintains one of the largest freshwater ports on the Pacific coast and is the headquarters for the Fraser River fishing fleet. Major manufactures include lumber, metal, and paper products; processed food; boats; alcoholic beverages; and machinery. In recent years, industries such as salmon canning have declined in importance and been replaced by administrative and service employment. The city is becoming more of a residential center for Vancouver, a development fostered by the expansion of light-rail service. New Westminster is the site of a junior college; the Regimental Museum, containing a collection of military artifacts; Irving House Historic Centre and Museum; and the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Founded in 1859 and originally named Queensborough, New Westminster was incorporated in 1860 and was the capital of colonial British Columbia until 1866. Population (1986) 39,972; (1996) 49,350.

-Family stories say she and Seymour eloped on horseback from Squamish BC-While living on Cattle Point, she made baked goods and sold them, which competed with Hudson Bay's baked goods sales, which was (probably) why Hudson Bay offered to trade their homestead for a house and lot in
Ballard.-According to the census records of 1900, Emma, born May 1851, gave birth to eight children, seven of whom were still living on June 1, 1900. When her husband, (Louis) Seymour Peppan was killed in a saw mill accident in
Port Ludlow (Port Susan/Roche Harbor?), Emma remarried to a man named Frank McFarland circa 1908.-As wife to Frank McFarland, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiary, Spanish American War Veterans, until her death on April 29, 1930; source: Seattle Times obit.
-Records from Washelli Cemetary list her birth year as 1864; obit from Seattle Times says she was 65 years old when she died.
-According to the 1900 Federal Census for Seattle Washington, Emma was born May 1851, and was married in 1877.
-According to her 1 April 1878 certificate of marriage, she was 15 years old when she married.
Emma gave birth to:
Susan Peppan circa Feb 1881, San Juan Island, WA
Frank B. Peppan June 1882, San Juan Island, WA
Charles S Peppan December 1883, San Juan Island, WA
Elizabeth J Peppan April 1885, San Juan Island, WA
Rosa B. Peppan September 1886, San Juan Island, WA
William S. Peppan December 1891, San Juan Island, WA
Donald Louis Peppan 13 February 1895, San Juan Island, WA
They had the following children:
527 F i Susan PEPPAN was born 1 about Feb 1881 in ?. She died before 26 Aug 1930. Susan was employed as a dancer on the Pantageous circuit as Sue-wara (Zoraya?).
The birth date I have recorded for Susan is pure speculation, based on the birthing pattern set down by the documented births for her brothers and sisters. The only real evidence I've found for Susan's existence is
family stories and the below mentioned reference on the back of an old photo.
My guess is that Susan was married more than once. Found an obit for Rose `Pepin', so figure Rose never married. One photograph of Grandma McFarland (Emma Sara) makes a comment about her being worried about Susie.

She was employed as Danced the Pantageous circuit.
Is listed in the 1920-1929 death records of Washington state as Rose E
Pepin (F36).
One of her acts (her only act?), on the Pantageous circuit, was dancing
on a silver ball about the size of a beach ball.
Has also been said she could spit `a fair piece' from the gap between her
2 front teeth.532 vi Might-be-she\Might-be-he PEPPAN was born 1 about Feb 1888 in An educated guess.. Might-be-she\Might-be-he died 2 before 1 Jun 1900.
I thought you might be curious about this one. Like Susan, this date is
pure speculation. The 1900 Census states that Emma Sarah gave birth to
8 children, 7 of whom were still living as of June 1, 1900. With the gap
between Rosa and William, I used the birth interval I got from his/her
living siblings and found that this looked like a probable place for
child number 8. Of course, this child could have also been born before
Susan, but this looked like the more likely place.533 M vii William S. PEPPAN 1 was born 2 in Dec 1891. He died 3 on 1 Aug 1950. William . + 534 M viii VIII-- Donald Louis PEPPAN was born on 13 Feb 1895 and died on 18 Aug 1957.
