WHAT'S NEW

I’ve started to put the surnames from the Monster Data Base on the web site.  What’s more, I’m counting them as they go up.  To see this for yourself, go to http://www.fortlangley.ca/pepin/MDB_02.html

There’s 1033 surnames there and these are only the names beginning with A, B, and C and three that have a user optional “Le” in front of them.

And!  Elise Dallemagne-Cookson’s book, Marie Grandin - Sent by the King, an historical fiction novel about her ancestors, in particular, a Filles du Roi named Marie Grandin, but more on this a little further down.

=======================================

THIS MONTH'S FEATURE:  The children of Marie-Marguerite PARANT (1Robert, 2Jean, 3Marie-Marguerite) and husband Charles BRACONNIER.

Last month, we looked a the children of Joseph (1Robert, 2Robert) PEPIN and wife Marie-Louise FRENCHE dit Laframboise

This month we look at Joseph’s 1st cousin once removed, Marie Marie-Marguerite PARANT (1Robert, 2Jean, 3Marie-Marguerite), her husband Charles BRACONNIER and their children.

Marie-Marguerite PARANT (1Robert, 2Jean, 3Marie-Marguerite), baptized 15 April 1721 at Beauport, is listed in the Tanguay as the 1st of 5 children born to Marie-Marguerite PÉPIN and André PARANT

On 10 September 1742 in Québec, Marie-Marguerite married

Charles BRACONNIER, baptized 2 May 1706, son of 1st generation Jean-Baptiste BRACONNIER and Françoise CHAPELAIN.

    Together Marie-Marguerite PARANT (1Robert, 2Jean, 3Marie-Marguerite) and Charles BRACONNIER (1Jean-Baptiste) had 6 children.

1.      Jean-Charles BRACONNIER, baptized 27 March 1745, Beauport; buried 27 June 1745

WRITING CORNER

A while back, the COUSINS newsletter came to the attention of writer Elise Dallemagne-Cookson.  Mind you at the time, I didn’t know she was a writer.  To me she was a descendant a Filles du Roi – Daughter of the King – offering new information about one of the Filles du Roi mentioned in one of the newsletters because she had done more than a little research on them.

It was the second email that I found out she was an author, and the reason she had done research on the Filles du Roi was for her newest book, Marie Grandin – Sent by the King.  Marie married Jean Baudet 28 September 1670, and they are individuals 11033 and 8687, marriage number 3525 in the Monster Data Base, making Elise a Cousin.  As such, she asked if I would start sending her the newsletter.  I did.

On April 6, 2003, Elisa sent the following via email.  She said, and I quote:

My news is that my historical novel,"Marie Grandin - Sent by the King," is in production and release date is set for August 1 - time for the Nouvelle France festival in Quebec Aug. 6 - 10.  This book is based on the life of my ancestors and covers the period in Canadian history from 1664 to 1715.

You can find out more about this novel (and me and my other books) on the franco-american writers website:
http://franco-american.happyones.com/fa-writers/Elise-Dallemagne/

Something maybe for your newsletter?  Just received word that my latest book released in January has won the Writer's Digest book award for 2003 in the Life Stories category.

Again, thank you for your newsletter,

Elise Dallemagne-Cookson

That latest book is The Red-Eye Fever - Adventures in the Belgian Congo, published in 2002, where Elise recounts tales of her adventures hunting crocodiles in the Congo before it became independent in 1960 and introduces us to some extraordinary people she met at that time.

In the meantime, you can find out about all of Elise’s books, including Marie Grandin-Sent by the King on the Franco-American website
http://franco-american.happyones.com/fa-writers/Elise-Dallemagne  You will find a synopsis of Sent by the King, plus a sample chapter, plus endorsements from well known historians.

 RAMBLINGS FROM THE EDITOR

So, there I was, trying to wrap my brain around the number 20,291.

What’s the significance of the number 20,291 you ask?

That’s how many individuals there are in the Monster Data Base when I decided to start a list of the surnames in it.  Yup, I’ve cracked the 20,000 mark.  I have in fact, entered in 20300 individuals.

This boggles my already boggled mind.  As most of you know, I started with Robert Pepin and Marie Crete and the widow of Robert’s dead brother Louis, Catherine Crampon who married Pierre Voyer 1 December 1662.  Then because I found that at least one of Robert’s descendants married a descendant of Antoine Pepin, and another married a descendant of Guillaume Pepin, I added in Antoine and wife Marie Testu, as well as Guillaume and wife Jeanne Méchin.

I’m currently in the Rs, at the surname RAPIN.  Once I’ve gotten all the way through to Catherine YVORY, I’ll take one last run through to be sure that everyone who can be is connected with parents, and then I’ll start the long tedious process of putting up the individual family lines.  Out of this many folks I expect there’s gonna be a few.

The reason I’m waiting is that as I’ve gone along, I’ve discovered that I had a number of duplicate individuals.  And in adding in additional spouses that got missed first time through, I’m sure I’ve added at least a half dozen new duplicates.  Can’t be helped really.  In some instances, you got Marie, who is listed as the daughter of Jean II.  I go to look for an appropriate II--Jean to select as her father and find at least three to choose from, so I add a new II—Jean, whom I can sort out the third run through.

And since I have been teaching my friend Simon how to use Front Page so that he can work on the Royal Engineer website at his leisure, I can get back to my first love: family research.

So for now, the Monster Data Base starts with Agnes Unknown, wife of Arthur Levesque and ends with Ed ZOYARRA husband record of my Great Aunt Susan Peppan.  I mentioned Catherine YVORY above because, well, I’m not all that sure Ed Zoyarra existed.  As Great Aunt Susan danced the Pantages Circuit (aka Vaudeville) right around 1915, Zoyarra may be that it was just a name she chose; Daddy said her stage name was something that sounded very much like Sue-WAH-rah, which is phonetically similar to Zoyarra.

Ah, there we go, PAF is done searching out all Individuals whose names are preceded by a I-- indicating that they are the 1st North American Generation of their line.  Mind you a handful of these 1810 are women, but they have a I—in front of their names because Tanguay put ‘em there.
