WHAT'S NEW

Well, now.  Here we are.  Four years ago on the 5th of December 2000, at just a little before 1 in the afternoon, I finished the very first COUSINS newsletter.

THIS MONTH'S FEATURE:

THIS MONTH'S FEATURE: Marie-Thérèse PEPIN, her two husbands, Jacques THOMAS, and Quentin ADAM, and her children.

Last month we looked at the children of Marie-Jeanne PEPIN and husband Louis-Joseph ROY

This month we look at Marie-Thérèse PEPIN, her two husbands, Jacques THOMAS, and Quentin ADAM, and her children.

Marie-Thérèse is the daughter and 9th child of  II-Jean PÉPIN and wife Marguerite MOREAU.  She was born 3 Feb 1709, in St-Joseph, and baptized 4 Feb 1709, in Charlesbourg, Québec.

On 4 October 1734, in Charlesbourg, she married

Jacques THOMAS, son of I-Claude THOMAS and wife Marie-Anne VILLENEUVE.  He was baptized 7 Feb 1713.

According to Tanguay, they had 5 children.

1. Marie-Thérèse THOMAS, baptized 19 Aug 1735; married Louis BRIDEAULT 5 July 1756, Charlesbourg.
2. Marie-Charlotte THOMAS, baptised 23 Oct 1736; married Barthélemi BERNIER, 15 Jan 1759
3. Jacques THOMAS, baptized 22 Jan 1738.
4. Jean-Baptiste THOMAS, baptized 22 Feb 1740; buried 16 June 1741
5. Louis THOMAS, baptized 13 Oct 1742

Jacques THOMAS was buried 16 Dec 1743

On 7 Feb 1757, in Charlesbourg, Marie-Thérèse married

Quentin ADAM, son of Pierre ADAM and Marie-Geneviève RICHER

According to Tanguay,
Marie-Thérèse and Quentin had no children.

If you can add/subtract/change any of this, send it on via email.

MAILBAG

The first comes from Bruce POQUETTE, of  Burlington, Vt.  USA:

10 Dec 02
RE: BOUCHER and PAGÉ
I was looking at the BOUCHER family as I am a direct descendent and am looking for a missing great-great-grandfather.  Name of Joseph BOUCHER and a wife (likely 2nd or 3rd) named Marie PAGÉ.  They (supposedly) had a son Olivier BOUCHER who we can't find until he shows up in Vermont in 1846.   We believe Joseph was a voyageur and went west, but beyond that is guesswork.  [..] Most of my ancestors came from Que. or Acadians.   We found a Joseph BOUCHER & Marguerite NOSTEKEUX in Lac Ste. Anne, but can't prove if it is the right one.  I was able to print the monster data base of Surnames and a lot of them look familiar without going into my tree.  One of particular interest in DESTOISMAISONS dit PICARD, as that is my great-grandmother's name.  DUPUIS.  There are just too many to list here.   Be glad to hear from you.

I did a kinship report on Marin BOUCHER the other day for the fun of it and I am related to him about 12 different ways thru family marriages.  The BOUCHERs married the POQUETTEs and DUBUQUESs and back and forth for generations.  So I can put one name in from 1600 and come out with the exact same end result as either of the other two names.   FOUBERT was another that I have a ton of them, also HAMELIN, HÉNAUT, HÉLIE dit BRETON, HOUDE, LAMONTAGNE was my great-great-grandfathers godfather, the PAGÉs, real important to me, PAQUET = original spelling, PATENOTRE, my mother's side started with him, THIDODEAU, a lot of them from Acadia.  Those are just a few I jotted down.  So, I guess the chance of our being related is pretty good.  If you should run into anything on the PAGÉ family, location, etc. would really like that.

Thought I would explain a little more on our PAGÉs.  The man we think is our g-g-g grandfather Joseph BOUCHER and either his son or brother married a Marie PAGÉ born in 1801 and the other one married a Josephte PAGÉ, born in 1810, where, God only knows, and are they full blood Indians, Métis, or French, we don't know, can't find a thing on them.  We figure Joseph went west as a canoe man or free trader, ??  and came back and somewhere along the way met these PAGÉs, my guess, sisters.  They end up in Vermont.  Joseph was supposed to have been born in 1774 and Jean Baptiste, depends if his brother or son, 1780's or 1806.  From there, I'll see what you might find on the PAGÉs as it just gets so complicated I could write a book on it.  On the licenses for fur traders, we find about a half dozen Joe's and Jean Baptistes's and other possibilities.  But we are trying to eliminate them one by one if we can.  This Joseph that married Marguerite NOSTEKEUX in Lac. Ste. Anne is a good candidate, but we can't find who his parents were, so hard to eliminate or verify.  He had a son Jean Baptiste born about 1816, I prefer to take the ten years off and say about 1806.  Then Berthier could come into play, but all depends on the PAGÉs as they were both married to them when we found them.  The when and where is what is killing us.

Take care, God Bless and have a Merry Christmas.

If anyone can help Bruce out, let me know.

And then Denise MACDONALD:

RE: (my great-grandparents) Eugenie Pepin and Narcisse Royer.
Eugenie PEPIN was the daughter of Alexis PEPIN and Marie-Anne LACOURSE.  The parents of Alexis PEPIN are Joseph PEPIN-LACHANCE and Marie TURGEON.  I have been trying to trace my Métis ancestry but there is not anyone in the family that knows of native ancestry.  Hoping you may be able to help me out.

If anyone can help Denise, let me know.

BOUNCING EMAIL

Was reading the book "Future Shock" the other day, and one of the things that the author talks about is how as more and more technical discoveries are made, the faster discoveries will be made.  I've been thinking about this.  A lot.

When I was in high school, The Cool Tech Toy was a Texas Instrument Pocket calculator.  You needed a big pocket, but if you had one, one of those babies would *just* fit inside it.  The Cutting Edge Video Game was Pong.

And look at us now.  Each of us sitting in front of something scientists in the 50s thought would never ever happen: The Personal Computer.  I got into computers in the early 80s and quickly discovered Cyber Space.  As time has gone by, the PC has gotten more sophisticated . . . and so have the [insert favorite expletive HERE] hackers.  Which brings us around to the title of this section: Bouncing Email?

Over the last 6 months, maybe ever the last year, some of the email addresses for you good folk have been bouncing back.  Because of this, I am seriously contemplating changing the way COUSINS is distributed.  I am asking that each of let me know how you want to get your copy of COUSINS.

The choices are:

1.) Via Email
2.) Via Email Notification that it has been put online
3.) To receive No Email At All, and go to the website to read it when the mood grabs you.

I sat down and went through the bounce notifications for the November newsletter, thinking that because some of you found me through a family member, I'm just going to list whose emails are bouncing --along with why they bounced-- and ask the Family Grapevine to do its thing.

I do believe that the biggest problem is that some mail servers see anything sent to more than 5 people as a potential problem, and because there are 62recipients, those mail servers see the monthly COUSINS as just one more piece of junque mail.  And Earthlink just plain doesn't like me.

So first, the error messages.  Though it should go without saying, I've stretched out the last part of the address, and put an X in place of the first part:

RAMBLINGS FROM THE EDITOR

So take one minute for yourself

Sit back in your chair.

And sigh.

Let your arms drop limp at your sides.

Now, take a big deep breath . . . and sigh again.

Think of those things that give you the most peace of mind.

And sigh.

And take another deep breath - draw it in sloooooooow and easy.

Think of those things that give you pleasure.

And sigh.

And sigh.

And smile.
